Thank You Note Tips
- Respond quickly: People like to know that their donation has been received and appreciated. Your thank you letter should go out as soon as you can make it happen.
- Handwrite Your Note: Nothing shows gratitude more than a hand-written note. If you’re unable to do this because of practicality, then try to do it for the extra-special people who helped you make this happen.
- Make it personal: Your thank you note should be highly personal in tone. It should sound conversational and heartfelt, so read it aloud and cut out any parts that don’t sound genuine.
- It’s about them: The purpose of your note is to make the person who helped and supported you feel good about what they’ve done. Give specific details that bring out strong emotions and create a vivid picture in their mind of your effort.
- How joining you or their gift will be used: If you’ve fundraised or raised awareness, tell supporters exactly how their donation or support will actually make a difference. Give specific details.
- Tell a story about your effort: What did you do? Did you reach your goals? How do you want your donors to feel?
- Who to thank: Donors, Team Members, Supporters, Volunteers, Advisors, Sponsors and anyone else who has helped you along the way.
