2016 SWEATYS GET ACTIVE & GIVE BACK AWARD NOMINEE

WHO: Joseph Bullock, 13, from Massachusetts
WHAT: Joseph raised $3,389 for the Travis Roy Foundation (TRF).
HOW: Joseph helped to raise awareness and funds for the Travis Roy Foundation as part of his Bar Mitzvah social justice project. Joseph held a pond hockey tournament. He organized the invitations, jerseys and all elements of the tournament itself. He also asked a local business, the Treat Cupcake Bar, to help him design a cupcake in honor of Travis and 50% of the proceeds went to TRF. He also held a bake sale at his Temple.
BEST PART ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE: “Meeting Travis Roy and learning about living with disabilities.”
TOUGHEST PART WAS: “It’s hard work to organize and pull off an event like a hockey tournament, but it was worth it!”
ADVICE FOR OTHER MOVERS & SHAKERS: “No matter how hard the plan is for your fundraising, don’t give up.”
MY CHARITY FIRES ME UP BECAUSE: “My friend Sam also has a spinal cord injury and I want to help people like him.”
WHY GET SWEATY FOR A CAUSE?: “Sports are fun, so it is a fun way to raise money.”
